Thorsten Owusu Gyimah (born 8 May 2003), popularly known as Yaw Tog, is a Ghanaian rapper who majors in drill music known in Ghana as Asakaa. He is best known for his viral song ‘Sore’ which featured Kwesi Arthur and Stormzy on the remix.
Yaw Tog is a West African and hails from Ghana. He was born in Kumasi in 2001. He comes from a middle-class family which exposed him to some challenges of life and he was able to see life in a different perspective.
He grew up in one of the busiest neighborhoods in Kumasi with his parents and siblings. This influenced his music style and he started rapping as a teenager. During the weekends and on holidays, Yaw Tog would hang out with some of his friends to showcase his freestyling ability. He also started composing rap songs which he rapped in the presence of his family and buddies.
The “Sore” hitmaker studied General Arts, student of Opoku Ware Senior High School (OWASS) located at Santasi in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

When a short video of Yaw Tog and a certain “lady” — which had been captioned, “congratulations, baby boo” — recently surfaced online, many social media users were of the firm belief that the girl in the video was the girlfriend of the ‘Sore’ rapper.
However, what they didn’t know was that, the girl in question — who has been identified as Phaney — is one of the elderly sisters of Yaw Tog and not his girlfriend.
Yaw Tog, who confirmed this in an interview with Abeiku Santana on Okay FM, also stated categorically that he doesn’t have a girlfriend and that, he is too young to have one.
Yaw Tog Music Career
The young chap started his career as a footballer but was impressed upon by his mother to stop playing football and focus on his education.
He has since been part of the ‘Asaaka’ trend or ‘Kumasi Drill’ which is basically the Ghanaian version of Drill music worldwide.
In 2018, Yaw Tog’s music career started in earnest when he fell in love with the style of one of Ghana’s best hip hop artistes, Kwesi Arthur.
He recently disclosed that he admires the style of Kwesi Arthur which inspired him to get into music.
Kwesi Arthur is one of the successful mainstream musicians in Ghana and he has made his mark locally and on the international front.
Yaw Tog released the original track ‘Sore’ on September 3rd, 2020 which has garnered over 2Million views on YouTube.
It went viral on Twitter with over 2million views soon after it was posted to the micro-blogging-site.
Big names like Vic Mensa (born Victor Kwesi Mensa and signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation), Michael Dapaah, and others gave thumbs up to the “Sore” song as it also got a feature in the Complex and Billboard.
“Sore” is yet another proof of affection for the rap subgenre born in Chicago and exploded outside the States, starting in the United Kingdom,” says Billboard Italia in a feature published about the young ‘Kumerican’.
He, together with UK-born Ghanaian star, Stormzy and BET nominee, Kwesi Arthur have remixed the “Sore” song which has received massive airplay after its release.

On Saturday, March 20th, 2021, Yaw Tog’s debut EP titled, TIME was availed to a cross section of the media for listening in Kumasi.
