Residents Of Rivers State Community On The Run Due To Alleged Invasion By Cultists

There was tension in the Gwara and Kono-Boue communities in the Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, following the invasion and killing of not fewer than six. persons, including a commercial motorcycle rider in the community.

The spokesman of the community, Nwaikpo Golden, confirmed the attack and said that the residents of the area had to run into a bush to avoid being hit by stray bullets.

He said, ” Unknown gunmen invaded Gwara community, killing about three persons. They also went to Kono- Boue, killing three there as well. A motorcycle rider and the persons that were with him were killed.

” They were coming from a thanksgiving service when they ran into the gunmen and were shot dead. “

A resident of the area who spoke with our correspondent on grounds of anonymity, said that the hoodlums who were seven in number, stormed the community in the early hours of the morning, shooting sporadically and left unchallenged by the security operatives.

He also said that a commercial motorcyclist and his passengers unknowingly ran into them, when they were retreating and they assailants shot and killed them.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, when contacted, confirmed the incident, stating that three people were killed.

The PPRO said that Friday Eboka, the State Commissioner of Police had ordered a discreet investigation into the matter with the aim of bringing perpetrators to book.

Omoni further stated that the killings was carried out by suspected cultists, stating that was a cult clash.

The PPRO disclosed the identities of the victims as 33- year- old Namene Kialede, 42- year- old Muaka Ikara and Kingsley Kponee, adding that no arrest had been made so far.

The PPRO also assured the residents of the area that efforts are being made to arrest the assailants.
